Galiano ‘the Gem of the Gulf Islands’ is many things to many people.
To some it is the magnificent sunsets viewed from Grey peninsula, to others it is the panoramic vista viewed from Bluff Park and to others it is the solitude of Coon Bay. Galiano Mopeds offers you a unique opportunity to visit these and the many other natural highlights that make for a ‘Galiano Experience’.
We can suggest routes that will allow you to visit a variety of beaches (white sand, shell, pebble or sandstone shelf) or gain elevation and view the surrounding islands from such highlights as Bodega Ridge, Lovers Leap or Mount Galiano with stops at some of the unique craft and artist galleries and shops.

Leaves Montague Harbour, travels up Clanton Road to Porlier Pass Road. Turning right takes you to Galiano Way and eventually to Sticks Allison Road. There are three beach access points on Sticks Allison which lead down to a sandstone rock shelf beach facing Vancouver to the East.
Returning to Porlier Pass Road and turning left takes you to the intersection with Sturdies Bay Road. Here you may wish to stock up on provisions, visit a craft shop, use the ATM, purchase a bottle of wine, or sample the organic produce that is available. Travelling south to Studies Bay a visitor may wish to pick up smoked salmon from Baines Smoked Salmon or stop for a mid day meal at Grand Central Grill, Scoops, the Deli and Bakery, or make reservations for fine dining at the Atrivida Restaurant (Galiano Inn). A short trip along Cain Road ends with a stop at Cain Beach (known by many as ‘Bakerview’ Beach) for Mount Baker looms on the horizon. Travelling back along Sturdies Bay Road turning left onto Burrill Road and then shortly a left onto Jack Road brings the visitor to Bellhouse Park. This park is a grassy knoll overlooking Active Pass?a body of water that is well named because of a 9 knot current, whirlpools and eddies, and it is one of the prime whale watching spots in the Southern Gulf Islands. ?J? pod comprised of 19 killer whales is often viewed from this site as they travel through the pass feeding on the salmon that migrate through Active Pass.

Mopeding back to Burrill Road the rider turns left and travels along a quiet country road to Bluff Park. A short ride up onto the bluff and the rider is treated to a magnificent view?.south as far a Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island, across to Mayne Island and westward to Prevost Island?.here eagles and turkey vultures may be seen catching the wind currents rising up from Active Pass, or a deer browsing on the side of the hill and closer to the water seal and sea otters. Riding off the bluff the rider turns left on Bluff Road, carefully navigating the gravel road until it intersects with Active Pass Drive. A turn to the left takes the rider down to the Cemetary, the last resting place for many of Galiano’s early settlers. Here the visitor may view the many seals that bask on Collinson Reef that marks the entrance to Georgeson Bay. Riding back along Active Pass Drive the road soon becomes Georgeson Bay Road; turning left onto Montague Road the rider is travelling down a long 1 kilometre descent back to Montague Marina... Total time 2 hours

The moped rider travels up the 500 m hill which is Clanton Road until it meets Porlier Pass Road.
A turn to the left (north) takes the rider on a 7 km ride along a weaving, hilly country road to Retreat Cove. A turn left onto Retreat Cove Road takes the rider down to the public dock in Retreat Cove?.here is a great opportunity to stretch your legs and search out the sandstone cave that is at the waters edge?a great opportunity for a photograph of sandstone erosion. A turn right onto McCoskrie Road ends at a cement abutment?.here the rider can dismount and hike a short distance to the unique Pebble Beach which overlooks the Strait of Georgia (don’t miss the busy beavers and the trees that they have felled). If you continue along Porlier Pass Road the next point of interest is Vineyard Way which leads to Bodega Beach Drive?. An elevated view eastward over the Straits of Georgia. If you continue along Porlier Pass Road a side trip up Cottage Way takes the visitor to one of the finer walks on Galiano's Bodega Ridge Trail. A walk along the ridge culminates in a view westward over Trincomali Channel to Wallace Island and Saltspring in the distance?.here the mopeder can rest, have a picnic, take some photographs of the panoramic view, indulge in some bird watching (Galiano is a haven for 130 species of birds as well as many rare and protected plants) and take in the soaring eagles and turkey vultures?.the experience will soothe you and provide a memorable moment for years to come. Travelling northward along Porlier Pass Road the next point of interest is Lover’s Leap View Point. Stop the moped, dismount and walk 50 yards to a cliff face that drops away 200 feet to the water below. |

| Take a few moments to savour the view out over Tricomali Channel with numerous boats making their way to safe harbour in one of the many marine parks that dot the Southern Gulf Islands. Further along Porlier Pass Road the rider will pass Spotlight Cove and the road comes to an end at the Native Reserve and doubles back as Devina Drive. If the rider has set aside the necessary time in their schedule, the 45 minute walk into Dionisio Park will provide the rider with a view of Porlier Pass and a wide expanse of white sand that encircles Coon Bay (close your eyes and you will think that you are in Hawaii?.. without the maddening throngs). |
